Hello everyone! I hope you are well!

Lollerland wrote:I have always been fascinated by the Harappan Civilization which roughly existed from 3300 BC to 1300 BC. While we haven't been able to decipher texts yet, archaeological evidences shows that were a very advanced civilization and their people enjoyed a great quality of life. The reason for their demise is still disputed, some say its because of a droughts and a succession of major earth quakes, others it is due to an invasion of Aryan tribes. I do hope we can decipher their language and understand their texts.

What area did they live in / control?

Minas Tyrrith wrote:What area did they live in / control?

Its area stretched from northeast Afghanistan, through Pakistan, and into western and northwestern India.
Along with ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, it was one of three early civilisations of the Near East and South Asia. And among those three, it was the most widespread.

Mzeusia wrote:Wow, that's a lot. I don't know much about the Etruscans except that they were in Northern Italy and so got conquered pretty early on in the life of the Roman Empire.

Well, Etruscan civilisation is pretty important and interesting, and often overlooked. Our first sources about them go back as far as the 11th century BC and they are the oldest Italian civilisation that we know of. They were there before the Indo-European invasions happened and had spoken a still not "decoded" Tyrannean Language (Tyrannean Languages are an ancient language family that belonged to the West Mediterranean and were dominant there in the Bronze Age) this suggests that they may have Western Mediterranean origins. Their first and mostly primitive era (The "villanovan era") was characterised by small communities and a war-like noble elite, fights were probably more ceremonical in those times and 1 vs 1 hand-to-hand combat was common, despite all this primitiveness they still probably were one of the most if not themost advanced Italian civilisation at the time. The Villanovan Era lasted roughly untill the 9th or 8th century BC, when the Indo-European invasions also happened to hit Italy, as many new peoples (whom we refer to as "Italic tribes", this group of peoples contained the later more seperate Latin, Sabine, Samnite, Umbrian and many more tribes) made their way into Italy to settle and conquer it for themselves. Remarkibly, these invasions did hit the Etruscans, but the Etruscans held out, quite remarkibly so as this was the start of their golden age, as their technology and sociaty advanced they formed city-states similarly to the Classical Greeks and adopted advanced legal systems. The coastal cities also fielded magnficent navies with which their trading connections went as far as Egypt and Anatolia. Etruria was also rich in minerals and was quite hilly which made it easier to defend. The Etruscans adpoted patterns in sociaty and religion which were quite similar to those of the Greeks (one of their most prominent trade partners), with them almost entirely copying the Greek Gods with a few tweaks (Minerva was originally the Etruscan name of The Goddes Athena, for example.) In many cases the prosperity of the Etruscan cities even overextended that of the Greeks, with aquaducts and arenas originating from the Etruscans. Women were also very well treated in Etruscan sociaty (compared to the rest of the classical world, that is) as they were allowed to have "independent carrieers", have seats in the arenas and hippodromes (and similar instituations) as well as being allowed to become "independent" priestesses and do rituals on their own. The political structures of the Etruscan city-states were originally monarchies, but similarly to what happened in Hellas, many of the Cities overthrew their monarchs and became republics, "democracies" (others remained kingdoms). Etruscans were also very successful in war as their forces expanded from the Etruscan heartlands colonising most of Italia and even Corsica (Their tactics and equipment were also a heavy influence from the Romans, as they were the first to use the shield that we now identify as typically that of the Hastatii and Princeps etc. of the Early Roman Republic, the Etruscans also used hoplites similarly to the Greeks). They founded colonies such as Capua and Alulia (and have successfully beaten many Greeks, Italic tribes and even Carthaginians.) Their Italian holdings at their height (at about 600 BC) included the backwater village of Roma which was originally settled by Latin shepherds. But, to all great civilisation comes a downfall. For the Etruscans, this debatebly started with their loss of a great conflict against a league of Southern Italian city-states and Syrakousai (Syracuse). Then the Romans revolted against the Tarquinii (a Dynasty controling one of the most important Etruscan cities, called: Tarquinum, which at the time had control over much of South Etruria) establishing the Roman Republic (which was mostly formed on the basis of Etruscan Culture and sociaty as if the Etruscans have not taken and built up the territorry then Roma would have been just a mudhut camp of shepherds, Etruscan influence brought stone structures, roads, advanced legal systems, currency, literacy etc. to the Latin tribes). The agressive Celtic tribes, eager to raid the rich Etruscan cities also played a big part in their downfall. But probably, the most important asset of their fall was that the Etruscan city-states were never really able to unite, not even against a common enemy which threatened them all. They did have alliences such as the "League of 20 cities" (Which contained the 20 "most powerful" Etruscan city-states), but these alliences were hardly put into practice. For example, when the Romans have taken Veii and burnt it to the ground, enslaved and/or killed it's population most of the other Great Etruscan cities welcomed the news as they were relieved to see their rival gone. They were also pressured from all sides at those times as The Carthaginians were supporting Roma and aiming to take Corsica from the Etruscans, The Italic tribes also fiercly fought against them and the Celtic tribes were agressively trying to make their way more and more to the south from the North of Italia. They still did have moments of glory, like when they allied with the Samnites and The Greeks of Magna Graecia to bring down the Romans and when they realised that uniting against their enemies is crucial for their survival, but it was already too late. It all went downhill for them and by 279 BC their last city, Valerthi has fallen into Roman hands, ending the once dominant powerhouse that the Etruscans were. But their legacy never died as most of what the Romans did and were originated in one way or another from the Etruscans and trough the Romans the legecy of The Etruscan Civilisation still lives on to this day.

Sorry if this was a too long explaination or if I made mistakes and/ or spelling errors. [Also, I recommend watching "Kings and Generals"'s video about The Etruscans as well as NativLang's video about their language.] Thank you for your attention! :3

Hey yall! Happy Thursday and Earth day! It is “suggest something day” I want yall to suggest something that you like to everyone else that you think they will also enjoy, my suggestion is Game of Thrones (if you’re old enough) I loved this show for the majority of its runtime but for something everyone can enjoy definitely should listen to the song “The Phoenix” by fall out boy, it’s a brill song! I look forward to all your suggestions!

Wolvilan wrote:Game of Thrones (if you’re old enough)

Game of Thrones used to be a show I always used to recommend until I saw the final season. Ruined everything for me. Two shows I would like to recommend are 'Person of Interest' and 'Rome'. Person of Interest is about a reclusive billionaire programmer and an ex-CIA agent who saves lives with help of an AI which was built by the programmer and sends them the identities of civilians involved in impending crimes. And, Rome has its plot set in the 1st century BC, during the transition of Ancient Rome from Republic to Empire and features many characters, several of them based on real figures.

I would like to also suggest 'Chicken Biriyani' to anyone who hasn't eaten yet. Probably one of my all time favourite things to eat! You can find its recipe here https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/chicken-biryani-recipe/

I agree, everything up to that point is great though

Wolvilan wrote:I agree, everything up to that point is great though

True. I was especially disappointed by the Night King. All of that build up about White Walkers ends in just one stab?

I would recommend the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. I read it quite a while now but they were very good and if I had the time, I'd probably re-read them.

Wolvilan, Belladonnia, and I am a planet bitches

Aye, I did not like that episode one bit

I love Percy Jackson! But a thing that I would recommened is listening to your favourite msuic in the dark, that completely changes the way you listen to it. In general, listening to classical music is great (especially romanticism and classic, thats more of a pers. preference though).

Kinda agree, but would say both the last two seasons were kinda bad. Was kinda downhill from the Battle of the Bastards and out.
But my personal hate series because of a bad ending is "How I met your mother." To this day it provokes me how they ended it =.=

Oh yeah! How I met your mother really really screwed up that ending.. Tbh there are way too many good shows that screws up the ending.

Have you asked any of your burning questions yet? If not, get on over to https://caersidi-ns.com/form.php?formid=2 and ask away for this month's issue of AAA! Don't know what to ask? It can be as simple as 'What's your favourite cheese?' or 'My mail person never throws the mail right on my stoop, but they always hit the bushes by my door, what do?, or even as complex as well, something complex!

tl;dr Go ask some questions!!

From grassy hills we push off
From windy climes we depart
Some leave their soul
And others their heart

You ask where we're headed
There's no answer to give
But the one that says West
To a new place to live

Don't wonder what shall the weather be like
Nor if the people will smile or scowl
The future is misty and shadowed
So row on and look to the now

Soon all your worries will fade
And your arms will be no longer sore
But only if we can make landfall
So take a breath and go grab an oar

Yes, the storms will arrive
And Sirens will sing out your name
But against rough waters keep steady
And you'll never notice the rain

In fact, it's not raining at all
And the water is no longer grey
I can see big fish in the water
The water that glitters in day

But hey, what is this, that sight and that smell?
A beach over there with fresh bread
Maybe we can join them for lunch
And shade under a tree before bed?
