Yes, yes. Much better now.

Today's pop quiz. Veronica Lake was an actress during the golden age of Hollywood noted for her peek-a-boo hairstyle. Can you name two or more tributes to her in pop culture?

apologies to all the peeps not eligible for execution, I felt it to be the duty of those recently holding high office to officially open the pit.

I remember her from Sullivan’s Travels. The only other thing I know is that she had to cut her hair during WW2 as Rosie the Riveter would have got her barnet caught in the machinery otherwise.

Write in poll nomination -

Her cutting her hair effectively destroyed her career. She did a bunch of Film Noir's with Alan Ladd.

Hint: In Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons, where was the town of Frostbite Falls located.

Good idea for a poll. It would be humorous (to me, at least) if we compiled a list of residents in the region, randomize a selection every once in awhile, then vote on who among them would be thrown to the crocs.

I'd not heard of her, and am unable to answer your pop quiz. She was quite the looker, though. I'd also not known there was a name for the "hair-over-one-eye" look, but I am a big fan of it. I have noticed it is having a bit of a resurgence. That must be a hairstyle that is only used for pictures, right? People can't actually be walking around wearing their hair like that...

I have a podcast recommendation for you that you may find interesting, given your interests:

It's dedicated to "Old Hollywood," telling stories and lore mostly from its early days, but also touching or relatively more recent times. The host often embarks on these series, of sorts. For instance, "Dead Blondes" tackles the tragic stories of actresses like Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Grace Kelly, Barbara Loden, and Dorothy Stratten; "Star Wars" discusses the stars during World War II; and then one with the self-explanatory title "The Many Loves of Howard Hughes."

My entry point into the show was a long and surprisingly well-researched series called "Charles Manson's Hollywood." I learned so much I can't even begin to detail it all here without this becoming a blog post. Suffice to say, it goes way deeper than I knew, touching on all these aspects of Hollywood that I was clueless about. It felt like I had read a detailed history book once I was finished, though one told with the flair of a storyteller.

Wrong! Frostbite Falls is in Minnisota, "on the shores of beautiful Veronica Lake".

Next Hint: Roger Zemeckis paid tribute to her in one of his films. Who in what film?

No, I've worn my hair like that, everyday, all day, at times, when it was much longer than it is now.

Thankies for the link. I will investigate it thoroughly later. Looks very interesting.

For an insight into "Old Hollywood" read David Niven's book, "The Moon's a Balloon".

On the poll- I figured Fjords were distinct enough to list them separately from Glaciers and Kettle Lakes. My part of the country is world-renowned for its Glaciology, which is funny considering we have no glaciers and no fjords.

That's great, wish I could've seen it.

But how did you see? Didn't it ruin your depth perception? Or was that just a sacrifice in the name of good fashion?

I don't know about others, but I could see quite fine right through it. I had it waved, but I didn't use spray to glue it together solid.

Huh. Alright, I suppose I can see how it would work. It's not exactly a solid object, which I think I was imagining. Reminds me of the way some Japanese artists draw female characters with hair over one eye but the eyeball visible right through it.

Dang nobody likes rivers or streams
