Forest Z-Day Plan

.

The zombie apocalypse originated from an April Fool’s joke several years ago. Now every year around Halloween (October 31st) there's a 'zombie apocalypse'-- basically you'll be presented with a graph tracking the member of your nations population who are alive, dead, and zombified. The growth of the zombies in your nation are controlled by the actions we take as a region as a whole. At first the zombies will grow rapidly, but through coordinated regional action we’ll make it all better. Expect a new post in late October (~October 25th) which will have a count down timer to when the zombie apocalypse will start. Try to log in as soon as possible once the zombie apocalypse begins (see below).

What to do during the Apocalypse

  1. As soon as you are able once Z-Day begins, begin researching a cure. You will be presented with three options, to kill, cure, or embrace. Please choose to cure as if we do so we can save the entire region. Do not kill the zombies because that only creates unnecessary dead that we could've saved.

  2. Do not choose to embrace the zombies or you will be ejected from the region for the duration of the event.

  3. It's best if we all keep in contact throughout the event for coordination.
    Therefore:

    1. You're welcome to join our special LinkZ-Day discord server! Discord allows for lightning-quick communication, so we can work even more closely and make sure we're as efficient as possible.

    2. If you don't join the discord server, please communicate on the RMB your efforts.

    3. We recommend that you post:

      1. When you get online, and when you go offline

      2. If you see any nations that need urgent attention (i.e. they're about to be overrun)

      3. If you see anyone embracing and exporting the zombies

      4. Nations that you're currently working on

      5. Nations that you've cleared

  4. Don't launch cure missiles at nations which are active (currently launching their own missiles). Launching a cure missile at someone triggers a cooldown time when they can't fire any of their own.

  5. That's all for now! We'll keep this dispatch updated as well as sending out telegrams with further information. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to telegram me, Verdant Haven, or Errinundera.

Zombie Recuperation Program

How do I get missiles?

There are three kinds of missiles you can get - Cure Missiles, Tactical Elimination Squads, and Zombie Hordes. Each of these are granted as a result of choosing the three options they correspond to (cure, kill, or join the zombies), roughly 2-4 hours after the option is chosen.

Each type of missile can also be upgraded to more powerful versions, which again result from keeping that option for several hours. If you change your choice frequently, your weapons will be less powerful than if you choose one thing and stick with it the whole time.

How do missiles work?

Cure missiles target zombie populations and convert them to survivors. Elimination squads target zombie populations kill them off. Zombie hordes target survivors and turn them into zombies. The higher rank your missile is, the greater effect it will have on the target population.

Each missile has a cooldown period of 30 seconds, and if you are hit by any kind of missile, you cannot use your own for another 360 seconds (3 minutes).

When I hit one nation, I cured several hundred million zombies, but when I hit another I only cured 1 million! What gives?

Missile efficiency is based on relative population. No nation can ever be cured by more than about 10% of its zombie population, and no nation can ever cure more zombies than about 10% of its survivor population - though specific proportions vary by the level of the missile, and admins may make changes to the game as they have in prior years.

To put that in numerical terms:

  • A nation with 100 million survivors curing a nation with 100 million zombies will cure roughly 10 million zombies.

  • A nation with 100 million survivors curing a nation with 10 million zombies will cure roughly 1 million zombies.

  • A nation with 10 million survivors curing a nation with 100 million zombies will cure roughly 1 million zombies.

  • A nation with 10 million survivors curing a nation with 10 billion zombies will cure roughly 1 million zombies.

  • A nation with 10 billion survivors curing a nation with 10 million zombies will cure roughly 1 million zombies.

As you can see, relative size counts for a lot! A huge nation trying to cure a tiny nation is a giant waste of time and resources, since they would have a much greater effect if they focused on nations closer to their own size.

This is why our Squad Leaders are leading teams based around national populations, and why it's so important to pick the right targets to cure!

The same rules about proportion apply to both extermination squads and zombie hordes as well, though the numbers for them are different than for cure missiles.

Someone keeps hitting me with missiles so I can't do anything! Help!

Sometimes, well-intentioned nations will accidentally keep you from firing your missiles through their dedication to curing you. When this happens and you'd like to play actively, you should send a telegram to the nation or nations responsible. Here's a sample telegram you might send:

Hi there, NationName!

I'd like to ask you to stop sending cure missiles to my nation.

I admire and support your efforts to end the zombie plague and keep me safe. However, I am unable to send out any missiles of my own while yours are hitting me, and I would like to be able to help fight the zombies myself.

Your best bet is to avoid curing nations who have used their cure missiles within the last ten minutes. If you need help finding nations to cure, I recommend you read this: www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=505793 .

Thanks,
YourNation

Feel free to adapt this sample telegram as you wish!

If the nation doesn't stop sending missiles at you, your next step should be to contact the leader of their squad who will also tell them to stop. If that doesn't work, the squad leader will get in contact with the delegate, Sillystring, who can send strongly worded messages as needed.

However, if you have chosen to join the zombies, and especially if you have exported hordes to other nations, our kill squads will be attempting to eliminate off your zombie population. Because of this, we strongly encourage everyone to research a cure instead!

Okay, you've convinced me. How do I join a Squad?

Great! You can join a squad in one of two ways.

1) (Recommended) Get on LinkIRC, introduce yourself, and tell us your nation name. This will allow us to match you up with the right leader!
2) Look at our Squad page, which has details about each squad and their leader, and send a message to the appropriate nation to join their team.

Good luck, and have fun!
