The Gyws

The Gyws is a large archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Originally populated by the cattgyws & daggyws, humans and platipeople have recently moved into the region. The archipelago is made up of 4 main islands, split across the 4 nations that rule them.

The first major island in The Gyws, home to the people of Cattgyw Archipelago. This island is well-known for its prominent mountainous terrain, with the largest mountain being cleaved in half by a river. The exact geological origin of this structure is unknown, though scientists suspect it was caused by tectonic plates separating, effectively pulling the mountain in two.

The second major island in The Gyws is home to Daggyw Archipelago. This island features a recursive island, an island in a lake in an island. This was caused by a volcanic collapse, which created a caldera in the middle of the island, leaving behind a volcanic peak in the middle.

The third major island in The Gyws is currently occupied by Kurzbestonn, who took over most of the land from Cattgyw Archipelago. Recently, a peace treaty was signed between Kurzbestonn and Cattgyw Archipelago which fully transferred all of the island over to Kurzbestonn. This island is known for its majestic hilly landscape which seems to defy all geological explanation.

The fourth major island in The Gyws is the Platypus, an artificial island created by The platipeople. Not much is known about this island as contact with The Platipeople is limited.

Despite the outward appearance of peace, tensions between nations are high.

The old story goes that The Gyws is protected by an ancient goddess, often depicted as an enormous human woman with catlike features. According to this story, the path to the archipelago can only be forged by those pure of heart. While most consider this to be nonsense, some believe that she may be real, and that she watches over The Gyws even now.
