Thegye IIWiki Rules, Conventions, and Quick Guide

--

This dispatch contains the rules and information about Thegye's IIWiki. Please address all questions and corrections to Bassiliya or Peraro Krotoik.

RULES

1. Adhere to all LinkIIWiki Standards and Conventions.

2. When editing pages, ensure that you have permission from the author before editing the page. Initial authors of pages should mark their authorship at the top of the page in a comment (ex: <!--Author: USERNAME>). This is especially true of official region pages and nation pages that are not marked public.

3. Ensure that you categorize your pages correctly. If you have created a number of pages dedicated to national information, consider creating a Category for your nation. Do not add pages directly to Category:Thegye without approval from either Lies Kryos or InsertPersonHere.

4. If editing a public regional page (see below for publicly editable pages), ensure you are adhering to the convention of the page. For example, if you are adding your nation to the List of Countries on Thegye, place your nation in alphabetical order. Ensure you write a brief description of what edits you make to any public regional page.

5. Ensure you know what you are doing when altering code on pages; make sure to check your work via the “Preview” button.

6. Only roleplayers, those who have completed a map claim, an RSC, and have posted roleplay material on Discord, may publish IIWiki pages for their nations.

7. If in doubt, send a request for information to a roleplay moderator.

CONVENTIONS

1. IIWiki has a high standard of quality. In striving to adhere to that high standard, ensure that you put in an appropriate amount of work into your pages. Pages should not just be a list of links to other pages, a text wall with no headings or organization, or a series of images. When you post, remember that you are representing Thegyans on IIWiki.

2. Mark your username as an author of a page before you post it: ex. <!--Author: USERNAME> This will help others identify which pages are yours and who to contact if necessary.

3. It’s a good idea to plan out what you’re going to put on each page before you begin working on it. Having the content pre-written and saved on your computer will save you a lot of pain and tears in the future, especially if your device crashes, the site goes temporarily down, or some other such catastrophe.

4. Make sure to name your pages properly. You cannot change page names once they are made, so choose wisely before posting. For nation names, make sure that people will be able to search for your nation name. If your official nation name is “The Holy Empire of Bassiliya”, name your page “Bassiliya”, etc. Adhere to the standard IIWiki naming conventions.

5. If you can, try and make use of templates when creating pages. This will make your pages look standard, save you a lot of time, and keep you from having to learn a lot of CSS. You can find templates by typing “Template:” followed by the name of the template in the search bar. Some of the more useful templates can be found at the following places: Category:Infobox_templates, Template:Box, Help:Footnotes, etc

GETTING STARTED

1. First, you will need to make an account with IIWiki. From the IIWiki main page, click on “Create Account” in the upper, right-hand corner of the screen. Enter your username (preferably your nation name or your Discord username), a secure password, and an email address for security.
2. Once you have created an account, you can begin creating pages by clicking the “Create a Page” button on the IIWiki main page. Keep in mind the rules and conventions listed above when creating a new page.
3. It is a good idea to start with a page concerning your nation. Keep in mind the rules and conventions when you create your page. It’s a good idea to use the Template:Country_infobox template for your nation. It helps a lot to have baseline expectations for how to set up and fill out your nation’s page. In addition, this will help you to learn the various ins and outs of CSS and MediaWiki coding. It’s not complicated, but if you ever find yourself stuck, feel free to reach out to one of the roleplay moderators for help. You can also visit the “Help” section of MediaWiki for detailed guides on how to code certain things or visit other IIWiki pages for inspiration.
4. Once you have created a nation page and have become familiar with IIWiki’s code process, it might be a good idea to create a Category for your nation. This way, you and other people can easily access information about your nation with a minimal number of clicks. You can start a new category by creating a new page entitled “Category:NATION”. Adding pages to your category is easy; all you have to do is type [[Category:NATION]] at the top or bottom of your page and it will automatically be added to the category!
5. From here, you can begin creating a series of pages for your nation and add yourself to any public regional pages that you might be interested in, such as the List of Countries on Thegye or the Portal:Thegye page. Keep in mind the rules and conventions; always be considerate with other people’s work!
