The United Vex Imperium, more commonly known as Vexium, the U.V.I., or more commonly the Imperium, is an ancient, sovereign state in that holds dominion over the entirety of the Lonican Aetherlands. With territory stretching from the Atlas Mountain Range to the Silver Isles, the Imperium is composed of a variety of different biomes that are home to a thriving collection of metropolises. Vexium is split between the Imperial Core, the heartland of the Imperium, and the Periphery, integral territories that exist outside it.

The United Vex Imperium is an old, ancient state that has nominally existed continuously for over two millennia. The Aetherlands, a large sprawling region in west Lonica from Borean Sea to the Atlas Mountains, has been inhabited since the Neolithic era with the earliest known evidence of ancestors to the modern Vex on the landmass being from 12,000 years ago. Native inhabitants of the modern Imperial Core coalesced into civilizations such as the Vex of the city Vexium. The Vex Kingdom expanded across the central Aetherlands, often through conquest, and eventually encompassed the northwest of the Aetherlands. The emergence of the Vex as the dominant power Aetherlands led to a Vex Golden Age of relative peace and general progress. This Golden Age ended upon the emergence of their rival southern state, Roketia, with subsequent conflicts eventually leading to the fall of Roketia and the reduction of the Vex into a rump state.

The Early Middle Ages saw the Aetherlands fractured into various rivaling states that were constantly in conflict. barbarian Lyzrenites and Matagabi were a constant threat during this time. The Vex eventually reasserted their power by the beginning of the High Middle Ages through subjugating states reeling by barbarian attacks, forming the Holy Vex Empire. As a dominant power once more the Empire continued its expansion and reach over the Aetherlands. As barbarian attacks increased, the Vex led a combined effort among 'civilized' states in a counter-attack, leading to the Age of Crusades. During this time the Alderic faith became widespread and institutionalized, eventually becoming the symbol of the 'civilized' parts of the Aetherlands. The Renaissance and Age of Discovery led to another age of prosperity for the Vex that brought the resurgence of culture, discovery of trade routes to far-flung lands, and advancements in science. By the end of the 16th century, the Holy Vex Empire held total control over the modern Imperial Core after years of leadership and status as a cultural, religious, and economic nexus of the Aetherlands. The Empire declared itself the "Final Imperium (Authority) of the Aetherlands", which marked the beginning of another Golden Age for the Vex.

The Second Golden Age of the Vex was far from peaceful, as the Empire crept into the Periphery islands and archipelagoes of the Aetherlands. Instead, the Second Golden Age saw huge economic gains by the Vex, who in particular used slavery of barbarians from their conquests to fuel their economic miracles. The turn of the 19th century was characterized by revolutionary turmoil across the country over the issue of slavery. In 1848, the slavery-dependent North rose up against the Imperial government in the Great Insurrection, with slavery at the forefront of many grievances raised. The rebellion was squashed and slavery was abolished in the Empire, with reforms carried out in the wake of the Insurrection. Despite the defeat of the Insurrection and the reforms carried, the power and health of the Holy Vex Empire waned. Calls for liberalization were routinely ignored and reforms to satiate the people were paltry at best, with lines being drawn between the rich aristocracy and the average Imperial. The sudden death of the reformist Emperor Ademar III in 1913, lead to a series of social, economic, and military events that culminated in an Empire-wide general strike and a subsequently bloody crackdown. The government's response led to mutinies, skirmishes, and then all-out conflict as the Grand Revolution began. The reformist Imperial Revolutionary Army led by Princess-Imperial Inanna secured the Imperial Core after five years of fighting the government forces of Emperor Xeringel I, who was forced across the Sterling Sea and forced into exile in the Silver Isles.

The end of the Grand Revolution saw the reform of the fallen Holy Vex Empire into the United Vex Imperium, sporting the more secular, democratic, and liberal government of contemporary Vexium. WW2 ANALOGUE HERE. Following the conflict, the Imperium was defined by the Silver Issue, where the Imperium and the exiled Empire remained in an uneasy ceasefire out of fears of escalation. The 1982 election of Harlon Massif as Princeps eased tensions between the two states with his controversial policies of reconciliation and royalist-apologia. The controversial term of Massif ended in his attempt to overturn the Assembly election results of 1972, leading an Insurrection at the Imperial Capitol and a series of bombings by pro-royalist terrorist group Iron Hand. The following turmoil ended in the impeachment of Massif, the election of Robin Brynden as Princeps, and the Imperial invasion of the Silver Isles. The Silver War ended in 1993, but organized criminal activity and pro-royalist paramilitaries have continued operations, leading to the contemporary Silver Crisis.

The survivability of the Imperium across its long life is attributed to adaptable political structures, traditions, culture, and a particularly flexible understanding between the relation of a polity, its territory, and its people. The Covenant of Divine and Man, the oldest constitutional document of the Imperium, outlines this understanding aptly: "the Imperium is its people, wherever it they may be, whatever shape they may take". The modern social contract and supreme law of the Imperium is found in the Charter of the Rights of Man, Responsibilities of State, and Undertaking of the Imperial Journey. The Charter, commonly referred to as the Codex Theodartes, outlines the structure of the modern Imperium.

The Imperium is organized as a semi-parliamentary elective monarchy. The sovereign of the Imperium is the Princeps Civitatis Senatus, literally meaning "First Citizen and Senator"

, a syncretic republican-monarchal title born from the Grand Revolution. The Princeps nominally holds great power over the state, but this power is largely locked behind ceremonial procedures and custodial customs. They can advise and provide a general direction to the state, but governance is left in the hands of the democratically elected government. Since the Blooding Years and the Reconciliation, the Princeps is an elected position during a joint session of the Imperial Assembly and a nationwide plebiscite. While the Princeps is referred to and even treated as a revered and honored republican position, it is in all actuality a monarchical station and a continuance of the Vex Emperors of old. As a result, the groomed heirs and successors of previous Princeps are typically voted into the position and a "First Dynasty" exists.

The Imperial Assembly is the bicameral legislature of Vexium, composed of the High Council and the Imperial People's House. The People's House is composed of a staggering 2102 Representatives who meet biannually, with its first meeting to elect a standing government amongst itself, and its subsequent ones to reconfirm their confidence in that government. In their first meeting, the People's House elects a permanent executive committee to act on its behalf, called the Imperial Presidium which functions as the collective head of government of the Imperium. This Presidium is chaired by its Tribune, who is elected first among its members, called Hierarchs. From there, the elected Tribune submits a list of nominees and candidates to be a part of the Presidium to the House, similar to choosing and confirming a cabinet. Traditional legislative duties are handled by the upper house, the High Council, composed of 755 Councilors. While this House does not hold the power of confidence, it is entrusted with the vast majority of legislative power.

In recent years, democratic structures and institutions in the Imperium have been strengthened, with a trend of popular governments that has continued for almost a decade and a half. The Princeps Civitatis of the Imperium is Callus Concorifer and the current Tribune of the Presidium is Lucia Rayne. Exercise of central power and influence is done through the capital located in Vexium. Following the reorganization of the nation after the Grand Revolution and Unification, the U.V.I. is organized into 29 administrative regions: 19 Core States, 7 Periphery States (Federative Territories), and 3 Imperial Districts. Each administrative region's governance is primarily performed by an elected local government that coordinates with the Imperial civil service.

The Imperial Guard is the armed forces of the United Vex Imperium. It is organized into four service branches: the Imperial Army, the Imperial Air Force, the Imperial Navy, and the BLANKtrooper Crops. There is also the Imperial Army, a conscription-based militia service that exists under the general jurisdiction of the Imperial Guard. The Aerial and Maritime Guard are the aeronautical and nautical-based service branches. The Custodian Corps and Imperial Guard are primarily land-based. The difference between these two branches is that the Imperial Guard is a traditional land-warfare branch whereas the Custodian Corps is a specially trained, rapid-response expeditionary force.

The United Vex Imperium has a powerful economy that is bolstered by a high degree of automation and sizable government involvement, which combined creates titanic economic outputs. Its GDP is 13.5 trillion Script, about 14.9 trillion NSD. Common imports of the Imperium are food products, rare-earth metals, and pharmaceutical products. Vast economic output comes from arms, technology, raw resources, and mechanical industries. Prominent corporations in Vexium include Raptor, ArkWorks, TICompany, CostLow, and Noren. All these factors allow for the nation's massive investments in areas such as welfare, infrastructure, military, culture, and scientific research. The United Vex Imperium is a well-developed nation, sporting a high score on the HDI and GINI indexes.

The Imperium is seen as a regional power with mild international influence, being active across the world in spreading its influence. It has strong diplomatic ties to its allies, being a part of a BLANK.
