“Vuelo de Águila”

The song was originally composed early on in Telaholoyani history, sometime in either late 1829 or early 1830 during the Panama War between Telaholoyan and Gran Columbia. The composer, Casimiro Francisco Javier Ríos, was an artilleryman of the 14th Regimiento de Artillería. He drew inspiration supposedly from a golden eagle that would fly around near the camp. He chose to write the song after seeing the eagle kill a falcon that was attempting to attack the mother eagle’s chicks, which he alludes to throughout the song as the eagle representing Telaholoyan and the chicks representing the Telaholoyani people.

It was originally used as a military march song throughout the duration of the war by the regiment, and later became popularized among remainder of the Cuerpo de Artillería and eventually the entire military. It was spread to civilian populations during the Telaholoyani-American War, where it was often sung in respect for fallen soldiers post-battle.

In 1850, the then president of Telaholoyan, Tristán Jair Moralez, held submissions for the creation of a national anthem for Telaholoyan, which allowed any citizens to submit a song to potentially be selected as the nation’s anthem. According to event organizers, the song Vuelo de Águila was submitted at least 113 times, as many submissions were lost in the mail. Because of the president’s previous military history, he was already acquainted with and appreciated the song, which combined with the massive demand for the song to be officially recognized as the nation anthem, he felt he had the duty if selecting the song as the winner of the contest. On April 7, 1850, Vuelo de Águila officially became the national anthem of Telaholoyan. Ever since, the song has been played at almost every nation event, from presidential inauguration, to royal coronations, and the song is even played after the conclusion of a federal court session.
