Nationality law of Ceni

Ceni adopts both a jus soli and jus sanguinis approach to citizenship.

Anyone born in Ceni, except for the children of foreign diplomats or other persons not subject to Cenian jurisdiction, automatically gains Cenian citizenship. The courts have explicitly ruled that this provision includes the children of undocumented immigrants.

Anyone born to at least one Cenian parent also automatically gains Cenian citizenship. For the purposes of Cenian nationality law, this also includes international adoptions to Cenian parents (same-sex or opposite-sex couples) or surrogacy arrangements; there is an online process to legalize such arrangements.

Ceni has adopted a relatively liberal naturalization policy which only requires three years of legal presence in Ceni. (There is no "permanent resident" status in Ceni.) The applicant must demonstrate a knowledge of Cenian civics in a test conducted in either Terranean or Valladar/Faroleran and therefore de facto requires knowledge of one of those two languages. The applicant must also have a clean criminal record in Ceni and in the country of prior citizenship, including violations of World Assembly statute in any nation (WA member state or not).

Ceni allows dual citizenship and does not require applicants to renounce their former citizenship upon acquiring Cenian citizenship, nor does it require Cenians who acquire another citizenship to give up that citizenship.
