General Election
By the Rt. Hon. Remile Talleyrand OBE OM, BBC Director-General

On March 26th, UK citizens went to the poll for the third time in three months to elect a new Prime Minister and a new Parliament. Incumbent Prime Minister Henry Stewart faced off against former Member of Parliament Mayim Emanu-El-Bauheim & Speaker of the House of Commons Matthew Stewart. BBC Polls suggested that a runoff would occur between the incumbent PM and Mayim Emanu-El-Bauheim.
Citizens were also to elect a new 5-person Parliament, a combination of 3 seats and 2 at-large seats. Three incumbent members of Parliament decided not to run for reelection, while BBC Polls showed that all the elections would be likely going to competitive runoffs.

In the BBC poll, we found that the top issue for voters was the situation of constituency nations, which mainly included figuring out how to reform the system to increase activity, possibly removing a constituency nation.
The election would also see if the largely dominating Progressive Unionist Party would retain its position as the top political party, or would Sinn Fein, which has seen a recent boom in activity after months of decline, would reclaim their title. We also saw The Independent Group launching a less aggressive but active campaign.

The first results of the election on March 26th and the 27th were surprising! As the BBC poll said, the PM race did come down to a runoff between the incumbent Prime Minister and Ms. Mayim Emanu-El-Bauheim, with Emanu-El-Bauheim taking first place, and the Speaker, Mr. Stewart, coming in third.

For the first seat in Parliament, Mr. Matthew Stewart faced off against Mr. Henry Stewart, with former Prif Weinidog of Wales Alex Bauheim running. In a major upset, the seat went to a runoff between Mx. Alex Bauheim and Mr. Henry Stewart. Stewart ultimately won the race in a runoff with 67% of the vote.

For the second seat in Parliament, Mr. Angus Baker-Mountbatten, and incumbent MP, faced off against Mr. Scott Stewart, also an incumbent MP, and active newcomer David Gareth Tucker-Allum. Mr. Baker-Mountbatten won outright, barely avoiding a runoff. However, both Mr. Stewart and Mr. Tucker-Allum received seats in Parliament through the at-large party vote.

In the third seat, the most competitive seat, Ms. Mayim Emanu-El-Bauheim, faced off longtime citizen and longest serving PM Klaus Mikaelson, founder of the TIG & former Taoiseach of Northern Ireland Mithrandir Olorin, and then English Lord Lieutenant George Mountbatten-Montreal. Ms. Emanu-El-Bauheim & Mr. Mikaelson advance to a runoff, with Ms. Emanu-El-Bauheim later won the runoff with 62% of the vote.

Finally, in the at-large “party vote,” Sinn Fein was at the top with 34% of the vote, followed by the Progressive Unionist Party (PUP) with 26% of the vote, with the Labour Party closely behind with 23%, and TIG coming back in last with 17%. Sinn Fein was guaranteed 2 seats, and the remaining parties were guaranteed 1 seat.

In Parliament, Sinn Fein has 2 seats, with the remaining parties, PUP, TIG, and Labor, having 1 seat each. This did serve as a disappointing election for the PUP, which had become a dominant force in the region after the November and January elections. With this election concluded, it is to be seen how the government and Parliament increase regional activity, and also their plans for events like the King’s Jubilee in May, and how to deal with constituency nations.
