Overview

By Councilman Debrikov,
Governor of Greminsk
Imperial Era 1665
Modern Era 2021

The Republic of Glasvya was founded in Haku Royal Era 003 by Vladikov Adretsko. However, it was only a Republic in name, ruled by the Adretsko family until Imperial Era 445. It was absorbed into the Kingdom of Haku in Royal Era 204, which in the Modern Era is A.D. 204. Until the beginnings of the Imperial Era, Glasvya and Haku had relatively friendly relations; the Imperial Capital was even moved to Obrikov several times.

In Imperial Era 533 through 600, which in the Modern Era is A.D. 889 through 956, the Glasvian government led a rebellion against the Imperial Family, but this revolution was quashed. In Imperial Era 605, Glasvya officially joined Hakuri as a semiautonomous province.

The Republic is administered by a Council of 41 Governors, two from each state, and one from the Capital, Obrikov. The President is elected from this group by the Council. The President holds no extralegal or uberadministrative power, but is the province’s delegate to the Imperial Capital in Haku. At present, the government’s relationship with Hakuri is amiable, but tensions still remain in regards to Glasvya’s desire for an elevation to full autonomy and Protectorate status.

The Republic is the northernmost province of the Empire, frozen and in many places inhospitable. However, it is also rich in oil, giving its development a place of importance in the Diet.

The Republic is a relatively large province, rich in land and resources but comparatively underpopulated when compared to her sovereign nation. The Empire’s three largest lakes are found here, as well as Her most productive sea port. Without Glasvya, sea trade would be nigh impossible. The province of Glasvya makes up 14% of the Imperial economy.

The Glasvian military is the third largest in the Empire, dwarfed entirely by the province of Haku. However, the Glasvian forces are some of the best trained, and often lead charges, fighting on the front lines in the Empire’s Holy Wars for expansion. The Glasvian Royal Guard, a remnant of a secular Hakuri, have served as the guards of the Old Palace in Obrikov since Imperial Era 841. The Pontifical Guard of Glasvya have protected the Pala Novo in Haku since Imperial Era 1093.

Glasvya is the only province in Hakuri where a language besides Imperial holds official status. Glavinsk is spoken side by side with Imperial, and is taught in schools farther north. While all public media and government affairs are in Imperial, Glavinsk in spoken in the home, on the town, and in the Church.

The latest referendum for Glasvian autonomy was held in Imperial Era 1662, with 90% of the nation voting yay. However, the decision was vetoed by the Imperial Diet, with both Houses voting against. Startlingly, the House of Nobles was the most in favor of full autonomy for Glasvya.

The Imperial Household of Skovlaya is descended from a Glasvian President, giving the province hope for mercy. Alas, the only remaining trace of Glasvian blood lies in the Imperial Household’s raven hair and naming habits.

The late Emperor Havik in Imperial Era 1594 granted Glasvya Imperial Privilege, placing the Republic on the same rung as Haku in the Imperial ladder. The Emperors have historically treated Glasvya as a second home, and would sorely part with it.
