The Vanilla, Pink and Brown colors on the flag represent the 3 sub-groups of the Ąmaiyūwanese ethnic group, the Vamliu, Berinew and the Chizhi. The flower on the hoist side of the flag represents the national plant, the rare Chremunila Spice Flower, often used in Ąmaiyūwanese dishes. The white has no official meaning, but is often thought to represent peace and prosperity. The 8 holes in the flag represent the "8 Heroes," the people who lead the independence movement. The strange shape dates back thousands of years, and was used as a flag used in battle.
