All You Need To Know About Consiglio Elections In Venice

On behalf of the Republic of Venice, I am excited you are interested in seeking a seat on Venice's Consiglio dei Pregadi — or Venetian Senate.

Q: What is the Consiglio?

A: The Consiglio dei Pregadi is the single most powerful institution in Venice, providing a Democratic check on the power of the Doge. Members of the Consiglio are referred to as "Senators" and have the power to draft laws, approve all of the Doge's appointments, and contest actions from the Doge.

Q: So, what do I have to do exactly?

A: As a Senator, you will be responsible for approving all appointments made by the Doge, and writing laws for the betterment of Venice, reviewing all actions of the executive branch, and overseeing trials if need-be.

Q: How do the elections work?

A: Elections are "first past the post" with the top number of candidates filling out the vacant seats sequentially. Doge Atlantis will announce the number of seats prior to the vote based on the number of candidates running.

Q: Where does the Consiglio work?

A: The business of the Consiglio will take place on the Regional Message Board of the region Consilgio dei Pregadi. Once elected, you will be made an officer in Venice which will give you permission to post on that Regional Message Board. Senators will comment there so that conversations can kept organized vs. the regular back and forth on Venice's main Regional Message Board.

Q: What requirements are there to be a Senator?

A:

1. You must have a nation in the region.
2. You must commit to being active (logging on every other day, roughly -- though sh*t happens, we understand!)

Q: Okay! I want to run. What do I do?

Make a RMB post declaring your candidacy and tag Republic of Atlantis so I can add you to the list. Your RMB post needs to have some kind of platform stating what you would do as a Senator. It doesn't need to be a novel, but give the voters some sense of what you'd do! You can also put your platform in a Factbook if you prefer.
