Medician!

At the call of the Emperor, I assume from now on the direction of the government of Medici. Sure of the affection of our admirable army which fights, with a heroism worthy of its long military traditions, against an enemy superior in number and in arms; sure that, by its magnificent resistance, it fulfilled its duties towards our allies; sure of the support of the veterans whom I had the pride to command, sure of the confidence of the whole people, I give Medici the gift of my person to alleviate his misfortune.
In these painful hours, I think of the unfortunate refugees, who in extreme poverty roam our roads. I express my compassion and concern to them.

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you today that the fighting must be stopped. I addressed the adversary this night to ask him if he is ready to seek with me, among soldiers, after the struggle and in honor, the means of putting an end to hostilities. May all Medicians unite around the government I preside over during these difficult times and silence their anguish to obey only their faith in the destiny of the homeland.
