Special Units

Chevaliers
Reserved only for the best, the Chevaliers ride pegasi into combat, they are used to support the Angelic Legions on long distance operations. Between the requirement for the rider, the mount, the equipment, and training, their numbers are severely limited.

Cataphracts
The heavy cavalry of Athejia, Cataphracts are used for assault, direct combat, and exploitation. They use a stronger more robust breed of horse than the dragoon which are capable of wearing heavy plate armor of both the horse and its rider. The armor is equivalent to level 4 contemporary ballistic armor.

Dragoons
The lowest ranking mounted force, Dragoons serve as light cavalry. Responsible for harassment actions, reconnaissance, and exploitation maneuvers, they typically ride to a suitable location then dismount and fight as infantry.

Royal Scouts
The Royal Scouts are under the direct command of the Seraphim, highly trained and enjoying the best equipment Athejia has to offer, they are the best troops in our military. Unlike the rest of our military, their equipment and training resemble those of our contemporaries, and are thus skilled at operating at behind the lines actions, subterfuge, stealth, and other "unchivalrous" acts.

Rangers
Rangers are less specialized than the Royal Scouts, but offer more tactical flexibility than normal infantry. Focusing mostly on long range combat and reconnaissance, they are also trained and equipped for more subtle actions than their allies in shining armor.

Named Mage
Truly powerful magicians, Named Mages are granted a title by the Leadership that pertains to their skills. To earn such a title an Imperial Mage must posses exceptional magic capacity, stamina, tactical and strategic knowledge, and experience on the battlefield. Lastly, they must also have a subset of magic or particular spell whose power and technique are unmatched by any others.

Imperial Mage
Imperial Mages are veteran magicians, possessing superior magic capacity to battlemages and can use more powerful and complex spells. Unlike battlemages they fight only with magic, and are often relegated to demolition or fire support roles.

Battlemage
The mainstay of the Athejian military, battlemages fight with firearms and spells. Once ammo or magical energy is spent they switch to the other, and do so according to whatever combat situation they find themselves in.

Named Alchemist
Much like Named Mages, Named Alchemists are given a title according to their specialty. These are among the most powerful people in Athejia and many Sword Saints have found originated from their ranks.

State Alchemist
Veteran Alchemists, they handle large-scale magic that can only be accomplished with with stationary magic circles and equipment such as weather manipulation or heavy bombardment. State Alchemist is a term that also encompass any distinguished engineer or magic researcher that work for the military.

Alchemist
Alchemists are typically in charge of handling logistics and healing on the battlefield, cooking and storing food with magic, dealing with the wounded, and providing cover, they are essential in combat.

Legionnaires
Legionnaires are the elite infantry of Athejia, they are responsible for breakthroughs, assaults, defense, and delaying tactics. Possessing expensive plate armor which surpasses their contemporaries in protection, they have little to fear from certain bullets or shrapnel. (Low velocity, limited ammunition .45, 9mm, etc. such as those found in SMGs, and pistols, standard non-specialized ammunition such as civilian 5.56mm. Small caliber explosive ammunition also does little due to their very limited penetration and explosive charge. Most contemporary ammunition such as the AP FMJ typically used by modern militaries can go through the armor but have a tendency to ricochet if the angle is poor.)

Rooks
Unlike standard infantry, Rooks have a full-body suit of armor which provides a similar resistance to shrapnel and low power ammunition.
