A General Introduction and Guide to RP (WIP)

KANTRIAN RP GUIDE

PREAMBLE

Hello, and welcome. Whether you be an RPer seasoned or fresh, whether you've experienced RP in another region or not, this guide will aid you in not just the inner workings of Kantrian RP, but will ideally help you grasp the concept of RP as a whole, and will show you principles and techniques that you can apply all throughout the wide world of NationStates. This dispatch will cover the rules laid out for our RP, how you should conduct your RP posts and messages, and tips for how you can expand upon your nation's lore within RP. An important thing to note is that this guide will be discussing RP within the region of Kantrias, and as such, many of these rules and regulations will be catered to the Kantrian style of RP. All regulations present within this dispatch conform to resolution D.C. 2020/007, the Roleplay Organization Act, which can be found Linkhere. Without further delay, let us begin.

BRIEF Q&A

Are puppets allowed within RP?

Yes, albeit under certain circumstances. If you wish to have a puppet within RP, they must conform to the following:
— Is a colony, protectorate, or territory of your nation

— Is related to your nation in a relevant way (eg. A north and south split, an ancient enemy, or puppet state)

— Is designed to set up a proxy war type situation within RP with the approval of the mods (think Spanish civil war)

Can I RP if I'm not on the map?

Yes and no. There's nothing stopping you from doing RP if you aren't on the map, but it will be considered NC (Non Canon) and left out of the regional storyline.

Can I use giant space lasers and starships?

Eh, within reason. This will be touched on in the Godmodding section, but our RP is MT (Modern Tech), and thus any technology within RP has to be fairly reasonable. When in doubt, ask an RP mod: their verdicts are law when it comes to RP.

Can I declare war upon another nation?

Absolutely. Declaring war is one of the most fun ways to RP, I find. However, a war must adhere to certain regulations, which will be touched on in its own section. However, I strongly advise you research the nation in question prior to declaring war to avoid... messy complications.

If I'm a citizen of another region like Europeia, can I still participate in RP?

This is an excellent question. If you are a citizen of another region, you can participate in Kantrian RP, but under certain circumstances. If you attain Kantrian citizenship and are on the map, then you can absolutely do official RP. If you don't feel like making a puppet just to get citizenship, a Tourist Visa will also permit you "pseudo-citizenship" within the RP world.

REGULATIONS

1.) All RP must adhere to the Kantrian RMB rules and regulations (nifty URL coming soon)

2.) In accordance to D.C.2020/007, all RP is to be conducted in the LinkLavender Theater, under LinkKantrian Roleplay (WIP)

2a.) RMB RP is not illegal, but citizens are strongly encouraged to utilize the forums for ease of access and better organization

3.) Godmodding of any kind is not allowed, and will not be tolerated (Addressed in further depth in Godmodding section)

4.) Actions within RP that involve another player must be consensual (ie. If you declare war on someone, if they really don't feel like RPing a war, you can't force them to do so, etc.)

5.) RP posts in the RMB should begin with
RP: (RP title)
to differentiate RP posts from standard RMB posts

6.) NS stats are not used, but players are free to base their RP stats on NS

6a.) When coming up with RP stats, it is important to be realistic. Think of how certain policies and strengths may lead to weaknesses, and vice versa. Millions of troops from one singular army of a nation is considered overpowered and unrealistic. When in doubt, ask a mod

GODMODDING

Godmodding is no fun for anyone. Maybe you've never heard of it before, maybe you think you have, but are unsure. Regardless, you should probably read this anyway. Godmodding is the act of blowing stats, scenarios, technology, or power out of proportion. If you've ever been in a situation where someone wants to have an overpowered character that "has this and this and this and can kill this instantly and oh also it can do this and this attack can't hurt it, and..." it's essentially like that, but with countries. WMD's? Perfectly fine to have within RP, a lot of irl big shot nations have them. However, keep it realistic. You can't just have 50,000 nukes ready to launch at a moment's notice towards your neighbor's capital. When it comes to WMD's especially, make sure both people agree to what's going on before you try and nuke someone, and don't use it as an opening attack. As an example, nuclear weapons have only actually been used in combat twice, and not a single time since. As such, it's not likely that you'll be using them on a regular basis. Numbers are also important. NS is intentionally silly and satirical, and has numbers and percentages in some places that just don't fit in RP. As always, look to real nations as inspiration. If your nation is the size of Belarus and is situated on the southernmost spit of land on the map, it probably won't have 2 Billion people in it. Numbers are especially important with war. I mentioned WMD's, but what about actual armies? This is a bit harder to gauge. It's perfectly fine to have a big military, but think of both the impacts that could have on your nation, and the actual numbers involved. The largest cavalry charge in history was a charge of 18,000, there are 189 Swiss Guard, and roughly 275,000 casualties at Passchendaele. Having millions of men in a single engagement is simply not feasible. It's difficult, but nailing down numbers, or at least general numbers, is important. The mods can offer guidance, but this process will largely be up to you. In summary, be smart, don't be a jerk, reign it in. Use yer noggin.
