The Mattouni Race

The Mattouni are a species that have been described by other dimensions as a combination of human DNA and Dragon DNA. Despite these comparisons however, the truth is that they are a genetic combination of the Dralk, a species of armored warmongers who are keen on using whatever power they can get their hands on, and Scriptorian Dragons, a Dimension Hopping species of Dragon (see the Scriptorian Dragon Trivia).

The details of how the splicing occurred are lost, but thanks to these fused traits the Mattouni have incredible resilience to most forms of damage, and have the ability to wield the same powers as the Scriptorian Dragons. This power was labeled Mattur by the Dralk and the label has stuck with the Mattouni as well. An interesting part of this however is that the label Mattur actually formed the Mattouni species' name, as the Dralk originally referred to them as Mattou which stood for Mattur Wielder. This was usually followed by what occupation the Dralk forced them to carry out, such examples include Mattousmith, Mattouminer, and Mattouknight which is where the Mattouni name truly originates from.

One final thing to note is that Mattouni come in 4 different races, the Fafnir, Ryokin, Hydraxi, and Faroyaxi. Each of the named races (Faroyaxi being the exception) are named after the 3 Scriptorian Dragons that fall under the main Scrptorium religion. The differences between them seem to follow the rules of different dragon types from Earth based Mythos, but only in their physical structure.

Fafnir most resemble Western Dragon Mythos, having wings on their backs, horns made of ivory or the like, and four limbs (though in this case they have two legs and to arms). For Ryokin, their structure mostly matches up with Eastern Dragon Mythos, tending to be taller and a bit more lanky, lacking wings but are still able to fly thanks to their own understanding of Mattur usage. Hydraxi follow a stranger set of rules, they have some that look strikingly similar to a Hydra from the Greek Mythos just with wings, but at the same time not all of them have multiple heads. It is unclear whether more heads come from when the first one is chopped off, but even so there are some who break the formula completely and are born with no limbs except wings. Despite this they retain the ability to move via a snake like movement.

Faroyaxi is less of a true race and is used more as a general term for Mattouni born from two parents of different races. There are other Mattouni that look down upon these hybrids as "impure", although attempts to call them such are met with almost universal disapproval by the Mattouni Society.
