The Extended Guide- Dispatch Four- Other Areas of Communication

The Extended Guide
Part Four: Other Areas Communication

Go Back to the Master dispatch.

4.1 Discord

Discord is a communication platform that was originally used largely by gamers/for gaming communities. NationStates originally used platforms such as MSN, IRC, and Skype. Most have migrated to Discord at this point, with some still holding Skype groups. Often the invite links can be found either on the NSGP Discord thread or the WFEs of the regions in question. Regions have main servers, often with locked channels accessible through different maskings that depend on one’s position in the region.

Regional Discords usually have rules mandating appropriate behaviour, and Discord itself has rules against extreme inappropriate behaviour. For the sake of communities, refrain from violating the rules of basic decency.

Below is a brief guide on Discord:

Discord Introduction:

Registering For Discord:

Search “Discord” in your browser. When you reach the login page, you will be given the options to download the app or register via the web. You will need an email, and to verify it through an email sent after you register.

Settings Page:

On Discord, the avatar, nickname, and email can be changed. When you click the cog-shaped icon next to your name at the bottom of Discord, you are given the above page which allows you to change everything. At the side will be a bar where you can edit video and voice settings, which games are displayed when you are on Discord, and how notifications and emoticons work.

Invites:

The invite link is not present in every server in which you are located. It enables you to invite anyone into the server for as long as they click the link within the span taking place before the expiration date. Invite links that can be used by members can be enabled and disabled by the server owner. They can be public or private links.

Server Membership

Roles

Roles are assigned by the administration. They are created in the settings, under the “Roles” tab. They may be displayed separately to give categories to the different channel members, or they can all stay in the same classification. Different roles will have different permissions, such as the ability to see a locked channel that only can be accessed by admin and set roles.

In the NPO server, please request NS maskings from members of the PG or Senate. You can find them in the right sidebar under the title “Senate (NS)” or ”Praetorian (NS)” NS masking is usually accomplished by Senators.

Nicknames

Nicknames can be set either by the user by right-clicking the name, or by server admins in the same manner. The Discord personal settings allow you to change your nickname and avatar.

Channel Restrictions
Channel restrictions are divided into several categories:
Locked, only accessible by permissions from admin is the first.
Public, accessible by anyone, is the second.
NSFW, which requires you to confirm that you are over 18 years of age, is the third. Users may be muted in any channel at any time by admin.

In the NPO Discord, you see different servers based on your maskings. Visitors and ambassadors receive the Visitor (NS) masking, and citizens of The Pacific receive NS and Pacifican maskings.

4.2 Other Games

Unlike many other regions, members of the New Pacific Order enjoy playing a wide variety of games with each other. For more information on our out-of-character activities, refer to Linkour forums. .
