Mahathir's 1983 UN General Assembly Speech on Amsterwald

Mr. President, I would first like to thank you for allowing me to speak in this hall to numerous world leaders and an international audience from all six continents. I can only hope that this short speech will result in the impact I wish it to have, to once again have the world find it's empathy and morality.

The world witnessed first-hand the atrocities done by the Germans during the span of the Second World War, concentration camps, slave labour and genocide. It would be reasonable for man to think that after fighting for six years and over 20 million deaths the world would never again tolerate such acts of evil, but yet here we are. The international community has stood by long enough while it watched as chaos and evil reigned supreme in Indonesia. In 1950, taking advantage of the political and social instability that plagued Indonesia after their four year long struggle for independence from Dutch colonial rule, the founders of Amsterwald gathered it's forces of evil and launched numerous attacks the rightful Indonesian government. The Indonesians, despite being ill equipped and fresh from a bloody four year long conflict fell to Waldenian forces only after a war that spanned over 15 years and cost the lives of millions of Indonesians. Since then, the indigenous population of Indonesia are put into concentration camps reminiscent of those that existed during the Hitler-years of the Second World War, since before the war had ended, the indigenous population that were under Waldenian rule were forced to work as slaves to fuel the Waldenian economy, those that refuse are simply tortured and killed, no matter if they are children the age of 6 or women the age of 80, the Waldenians have no sense of morality. This is while the European population of Amsterwald are treated as royalty, given rights the indigenous Indonesians could only dream of and separated from the indigenous population to live in first-class homes fit for kings. Despite these crimes against humanity, powers such as the United States and others choose to legitimize the illegal, terrorist and Nazi-like state. Would they do the same if it were their women and children that are starved, beaten and killed? Hypocrisy it seems is and will sadly be omnipresent in our society. While the United States preaches democracy and speaks of the sanctity of human rights, it funds and arms un-democratic nations and support apartheid and genocidal states. I once again say, the international community has stood by long enough while thousands are massacred every day simply because of their race. Even now while I stand here giving this speech, women and children are brutalized and killed by an immoral and barbaric state armed and supported by the world’s superpowers. While this speech might be one that is short and quick, their suffering is not. I implore my fellow peers of this General Assembly to not fear retribution, to not fear what the puppeteers of Amsterwald might do with their economic and military might for the simple reason that we we stand up for what is right and moral, because eventually no matter how long it is in the future, we who acted will be the ones written in history as leaders who made the right choice, who were on the just side of history. If we have to be martyrs so the world can once again find it's moral compass, so be it. The world is greater than just one person, to incite real change we must unite our voices and be fearless, even if it means our death.
