Population and Geography
Featured Photo: Providenska's Central Park. You can see the skyscraper on the left -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs -- and the factory on the right -- Kamarov Confectionary.
Zitravgrad as in 2020 has the total population of 107,343,375 and the population density of 25 people per sq.km. and the ratio of male and female population is currently 86:100. Despite the high fertility rate and the family tradition of "large, extended family", Zitravgradian male population seems to always be slightly lower than female due to the facts that male population are in more dangerous careers such as military, police and heavy labor and that more of the male population would be sent to wars when needed.
"Zitravgradian" is a demonym that refers to citizens of Zitravgrad as a whole, all the while that Zitravgradians are in fact ethnically diverse. Native people of Zitravgrad are referred to as "Zitravian" while people who migrated from the Kozavian mainland are accordingly referred to as "Kozavian". Ethnic Kozavians are more likely to keep their heads low, although there has been no major clash involving ethnic Kozavians after the Revolution. Moreover, there are also other ethnics from nearby countries and other parts of the Kozavian Empire, as well as a noticeably large population of German-speaking Auestrikers. Despite the harmonious existence, Zitravians usually hold a degree of suspicion to Auestrikers, who are often well-educated and harder to assimilate. Moreover, Zitravgrad's ethnic groups include Haryamanian, Tbilosian, Kaskachian, etc. Therefore, Zitravgrad includes not only the native Ukrainian and Russian as its recognized languages, but also an array of languages such as Armenian, Georgian, Kazakh, Serbian, Polish and German.
Gaian human physiology only considers that a person reaches their full maturity at the age of 25, although legal age is often much younger than that. In Zitravgrad's case, its legal age is 18 for all legal matters, but its culturally recognized "coming of age" arrives at a person's 25th birthday. Meanwhile, a Gaian human will have estimatedly 70 years of adulthood until they are considered elderly in their nineties, which is a common age of retirement. Average Gaian life expectancy in the 21st century is 120 years, excluding chances of war.

Ten years since the Revolution has passed, the government had restored the glory and might ofthe police and the military to establish order and security within the nation. Zitravgrad has the rates of 671 police persnoonel per 100,000 people and 1,300 military personnel per 100,000 people -- a rather high number for a medium-sized nation, but still overshadowed by major powers.

States and Major Cities in Zitravgrad
The landscape of the Wasteland is something to behold. Magnificent lines of low mountains covered in snow serve as natural frontier between Zitravgrad and 'that oppressive empire' in the east. Once one crosses the mountains, the next sight is the great plains covered in snow. Cutting through the capital is the river Zhenya, which is wide and heavy-flowing, but frozen near-solid in winter. In the past, the Zitravian region was a breadbasket region capable of producing sufficient agricultural goods for itself.
The floras and faunas of Zitravgrad are limited to tundra kinds that endure harsh weather, because Zitravgradian weather will make most countries feel warm. After major fallout cleanup, the radiation level has gone down in cities and towns outside that area. But in the wild, there are also cases of 'radioactive' beings. Mutations happen... ranging from harmless glowing rabbits to abominations. Animals in rural areas tend to have extra legs, glowing eyes or misshaped organs. If not, they might be glowing literally. Despite wolf being the national animal, the Zitravgradian owe their progress to sledge-pulling Zitravgradian huskies. But it is harder to explain to other countries that huskies are might be their real national animal. Home to brilliant but hysterical minds, Zitravgrad is also (in)famous to genetically-engineered floras and faunas, which have been created firstly for the purpose of agricultural production, and secondly just because they can.
Summertime in the countryside
- here we wish it lasts forever.

Zitravgrad's biome lies largely in temperate forest, with taiga forest and tundra up in the far north. It also has three opening to the sea -- Anartica Sea in the north, Baldreatic Sea in the west and Chernyal Sea in the south. Its radioactivity zones are divided in three levels -- Green (Safe), Yellow (Mild Risk - Limited Entry) and Red (Risk - No Entry). If you plan to come to Zitravgrad, we recommend you to wear warm, thick clothes. Last summer was about 9 years ago (/s). And if you plan to go into the wild, wear radiation suit. Zitravgrad has four zones radiation-wise. The radiated zones decrease by year in a steady rate and are expected to be completely gone by 2100.
-
1) Radiation-free: Cities and towns that are already cleaned up. People are free to walk around in normal clothes, though normal clothes means winter clothes in Zitravgrad anyway.
2) Semi-contaminated: Slightly away from radiation-free zones as well as roads and railways between them. These areas are easy to calculated for Department of Public Safety which is responsible for fallout cleanup. Radiation suits are not yet mandatory. It is also considered a dangerous place to hang around thanks to the higher rate of crimes in these zones.
3) High-risk: Away from the saefty of the green zones, wildlife are still rampant and show abnormal mutation. Radiation suits mandatory. Hunting is allowed, and proven to be popular even if there are cases of deaths and injuries... occasionally.
4) "Don't Be There, It Will Kill You": As the name implies...
In legislation, Zitravgrad is divided in 9 Oblasts and 3 R-Zones. The Oblasts are then divided into counties. Formerly, each county and each oblast were ruled and run by noblemen and the positions were passed down the family line. However, the post-revolution system uses the local election which allows people to elect the mayor of their own county and oblast (even before people were allowed to elect their new Premier and Prime Minister). Likewise, the Mayor of Providenska used to be an appointed position before the new government arrived and allowed this position to br opened for election.

Providenska Metro interior
Photo @ Moscow by me
Built to maintain the metro, the wartime shelters and the sewage in the late 19th century, Zitravian underground cities eventually were expanded as the cities above them could not handle population increase, consisting of people who lost their homes during three Global Wars in 1910s, 1940s and 1990s respectively. The cities beneath Zitravgrad are virtually considered a whole world of its own, connected by the metro stations and sometimes occupied by poorer people and slums (and hence subjected to regular police raids). Zitravgrad's metro stations are at least a hundred meter deep down into Earth, leading these cities to be dug out tunnel-style. The stations work as hubs between the country's underground world -- escalators in the stations and elevators in the underground system are made to be much faster than their usual counterpart.
There are five regions of Lower Zitravgrad, which are situated beneath the following zones of Zitravgrad: Zone 1-1 (Providenska Metro City), Zone 2-1 (Svarevna Metro City), Zone 6-2 (University Town of Vaskaya), Zone 9-1 (Yaroslavgorod Metro City) and Zone 9-11 (Black Fortress, highest surveillance prison).
Other than nuclear shelters, metros and sewers, which exist in all cities and major cities respectively, Lower Zitravgrad's regions largely consisted of:
- 1) Underground farms, created by the invention of artificial sunlight lamp.
2) Supply warehouses, storing the bare necessities such as food and medicine in case of emergency.
3) Science laboratories, citizens often quip that there is something evil down there and hence need to be underground.
4) Jails, in which wrongdoers are kept for a short periods of time (or maybe not so short.).
5) Military offices, unsurprising close to the laboratories.
6) Water treatment stations, where the water from industries, rainfall and snow are purified. Most of the time, the treated water is clean enough for everything else apart from drinking.
7) Underground communities, usually people who work in places mentioned above, as well as metro staffs and people who need cheap residences, almost an equivalent of high-rise block apartments. These are usually small-sized living quarters and state-run shops and market.
