While Trotterdam enjoys most of the comforts of modern technology, cars are conspiciously absent from its streets. Ponies, being able to travel twice as fast on hoof as humans (and pegasi fly even faster), have never seen as much need for them, and cars are considered dangerous on roads that see heavy hoof traffic. Our streets are not designed to accomodate car traffic, and it would be difficult and expensive to overhaul the entire city to change this. Once delays from traffic jams and the hassle of finding parking space are accounted for, we believe travel by hoof to often be considerably faster than cars would have been in crowded cities, anyway.

Motorized vehicles are in fact legal inside city limits, but only if they limit themselves to very slow speeds, making them impractical as a means of routine travel (but possibly useful for hauling heavy cargo or other specialized purposes). Laws outside city limits are more relaxed, but there are no true highways.

Humans and other sluggish species who need to get around the city may wish to hire a taxi (please be nice to the ponies pulling it) or ride a bicycle.

For larger distances, between towns, the most common form of travel is by train.

For international travel, Trotterdam is a major port city serving maritime traffic for much of the region, although due to the slow speeds of ships they now usually carry cargo rather than passengers. Trotterdam also has a fully-modern airport supporting frequent jet flights which are the main way for visitors to enter or leave the Principality.
