Port Ember Maritime University - Wikipedia

Port Ember Maritime University

The Port Ember Maritime University is a massive and famous university situated in Port Ember. It is renowned world wide as a pioneer and leading institution in maritime studies and training.

HISTORY

The university was established on a secluded harbour northwest of Gaz Town in 1725, by the new British Governer shortly after regaining control from the Copperbeard Consortium pirates. The university was established with the purpose of training locals in the art of ship building and sea travel.

The first infrastrure which was build was a small dock followed by a large simple manor which doubled as accomodation and classrooms.

The university was despised and mocked during its founding era by the locals who deemed the institution as useless and as an insult, as the locals had a extensive history of shipbuilding and sea travel and warfare and was at war with majority of the sea traveling nations of the world for almost a 100 years. The locals believed their vast experience and backgrounds from accross the globe was superior to the knowledge the university attempted to teach.

The university received royal funding and kept expanding the grounds with more infrastructure, and by 1755 the "keep" construction phase was completed. This phase added a working defensive fort for protection against naval attacks and a massive area surrounding the keep was walled. This turned this university into a castle. The local British war fleet then called the university docks their home port, shifting from the busy port at Gaz town.

Shortly after this construction a British inspectorate team visited the university, and the governor of the island was removed with immediate effect. The reasons given was that the fort build was extrenely costly and served no proper purpose, as the docks there only housed the war fleet, but the docks at Gaz Town was more important as it is the trading dock of the island, and the fort there needed desperate repairs. Furthermore the university cost the empire a massive amount of gold and the success rate was fraudelent, as the university had a mere 25 students, although the governer told the crown there was over 5000 students enrolled. The governer was sent back to England in disgrace to be tried for fraud. A new governer was appointed, and he historicaly gave over control of the university to a native, the first official Counseler of the university- High Counseler George Black.

Under his leadership the university immediately changed its curriculum and taught all the localy aquired knowledge, and attracted other leading engineers, shipbuilders, academics and scientists from around the world. This was a massive success and the university soon had thousands of students.
