The Eclipse Games 2017

The Eclipse Games are an international sports event held every 4 years with a different nation hosting it each time around. Over the last years it has become widely covered in both national and international media, with the scale of the Games increasing each time.

In 2017 Midribbonia is going to take the mantle of the host, inviting sportspeople from around the globe to its city of Framdahen, a historic capital bound to become renewed through the ritual of peaceful competition. Any and all nations and their teams are welcome to participate.*

*Nations in a state of war or severe political conflict will be evaluated for participation separately.

Sport disciplines

Each nation may send one competitor.

The competitors are tasked with traversing an asphalted track with sharp turns, ups and downs, using special ski rollers. Each competitor is to start within a time distance of 20 seconds from the previous starter. The competitor with the quickest time of crossing the distance is declared the winner.

Each nation may send one competitor.

Each competitor will fire independently, and their ranking will be based on the accuracy of their shot from 350 metres away. Each competitor may use ranged weaponry that follows these restrictions: crossbows must be smaller than a Scorpion Ballista; bows must be smaller than a Welsh Longbow or be the same size; guns cannot be over .5 caliber, nor can rounds be considered explosive. Additionally, all weapons must fire a single projectile, so scattering munitions are also prohibited. The last condition is for weapons to lack any computerised systems, along with optical scopes. The only scope allowed is a simple crossguard.

Each nation may send one competitor along with any 4-legged mount of their choice.

The Horse Mass Start is a mid-range race between the riders. The winner is determined by the time it took for them to reach the finish line. All competitors start at the same time from an equal distance of 5 kilometres to the finish line. The track goes around a flat terrain, in a circle, with the start line doubling as the finish line. All competitors must stay on their mount for the entirety of the race.

Each nation may send one competitor along with any 4-legged mount of their choice.

The competitors are tasked with creating a vaulting program for their mount, showing their prowess and control of the situation. The jury of 5 vaulting experts from across different backgrounds shall evaluate each rider on their and their mount's ability to perform tricks and pass obstacles. Each juror will then give a score from 1 to 20, amounting to the total score of 100.

Each nation may send a team of 4, 1 per each part of the track.

The competitors are tasked with swimming a distance against the current and relaying a signal stick, which has to be held in one of their hands. Losing the stick leads to immediate disqualification. The entire distance is 1 kilometre, divided into 4 parts 250 metres each. Whenever the stick is relayed to the next team member, said member starts crossing their part of the track. Whichever team brings the stick to the finish line first wins.

Each nation may send either one person, or a team of multiple. No more than 8 participants may be sent.

The jury of 10 judges is comprised of various dancing professionals, coming from different backgrounds. While subjective, their collective decision was determined to be the most rational one. Each judge gives out a score from 1 to 10, adding up to 100 points total.

Each nation may send one person to compete.

The jury of 5 judges is comprised of various dancing/skating professionals, coming from different backgrounds. Their collective decision determines the score in three categories: technical difficulty, aesthetic value and deductions. The judges may give up to 100 points total in two categories without any deductions.

Each nation may send one competitor. The equipment for tournament will be provided on the spot.

The competitors shall duel with thin dull rapiers, wearing basic protection. The winner is determined by the jury on basis of putting the other competitor at the tip of their blade at their neck or at their head. the competition is formed as a tournament, with winners moving forward onto next duel.

Each nation may send one competitor. The equipment for tournament will be provided on the spot, depending on the physical parametres of the competitors.

The Bicycle Mass Start is a short-range race between the riders. The winner is determined by the time it took for them to reach the finish line. All competitors start at the same time from an equal distance of 2 kilometres to the finish line. The track goes around a flat terrain, in a circle, with the start line doubling as the finish line. All competitors must stay on their bicycles and with their feet off the ground for the entirety of the race, lest they be disqualified.

Each nation may send one competitor. The equipment for tournament will be provided on the spot, depending on the physical parametres of the competitors.

The Speedskating Sprint is a short-range race between the skaters. The winner is determined by the time it took for them to reach the finish line. All competitors start separately and go one after the other from an equal distance of 500 metres to the finish line. The track goes through a flat terrain, in a straight line. The entire length is covered in smooth and uninterrupted layer of ice. All competitors must stay on their skates and not fall over, lest they be disqualified.

Motto

The Eclipse Games of 2017 are the first ones to feature a motto - an idea proposed by the hosting side. It reads as "Shivinim inter plavekami", which can be translated from Ribbonian as "Friendship between people". Such a slogan signifies the role peaceful competitions like the Eclipse Games have come to play in the establishment of closer ties worldwide. The logo of the 2017 Games also features the motto as its background, along with a stylised contraction "SIP", forming the logo itself. Symbolically, the logo also features a rider on a mount, the sillhouette of which can be distinguished in the aforementioned letters, showing a newly formed tradition of equestrian sports in the Eclipse Games, as well as existing reverance towards horses in Midribbonia. In the central part of the contraction a subtle number 4 has been placed, signifying that these are the 4th Eclipse Games.

Vampire - Female (both).
Dance Info: Courte Fan Dance. The (1) stands for the number of dancers, as how the dances are performed generally depends on the number present. (2) is popular due to the close synergy which the graceful actions of the dancers have to possess, and will be performed in the Games.
The performer(s) wear silken robes of midnight blue, with small silver ornaments that are meant to look like stars in the night sky. Humans and some other races have to use fans for the dance. However, vampires simply drape the robes over their wings, as would harpies, and thus can forgo fans.
