Consulate Address and Appointments - May 2024

Hello all,

I’ve undertaken the kindness of bolding the more concise and materially relevant parts of this speech, though of course we would appreciate anyone interested enough to read in full…

On May 4th, Creeperopolis announced that he would be stepping down as Chief Consul of the Republic. The Consulate thanks him for his nearly three years of service in the role, a reign under which the region has seen great progress.

It’s important to note, given that many members of the region have joined since Creeperopolis took up that mantle, that he did so against tall odds and high expectations. The community was in pain at the time, having suffered extreme antagonism and the sudden, shocking need to remove certain individuals from its spaces. Not only that, but Creeperopolis became Chief Consul immediately, whereas his predecessor, Terranihil, had been on the Consulate for nearly a year before becoming Chief.

When Terranihil ended his tenure as Chief Consul in 2021, I refused to retake the role of Chief because had I served over three years, then my successor two months, and then I retook it, the message it would’ve sent about the ability of anyone else to survive in the role would’ve been incredibly damaging to our institutions. Combined with Paleocacher’s disinterest, Creeperopolis was willing to take the risk of becoming our third Chief Consul in such trying times.

The Consulates he chaired were by all reasonable metrics a success, and for that he is entitled to the honor of Consulate Citation, as our newest Chief Consul Emeritus.

His successor as Consul, Anjan Kloss / Narkina, has taken over and begun settling into the role. As our leading manual recruiter, a decorated LDF officer, and avid leader in the regions’ roleplay, he was the obvious choice to be the next member of the Consulate. Due to his preference to not start as Chief Consul, and Spode Humbled Minions / Mechanocracy’s desire not to have the role, I will be returning to the role of Chief Consul until a successor in that regard is ready and comfortable.

The immediate days of this Consulate have been focused on rebuilding infrastructure damaged by the outage, primarily ensuring API recruitment is back up and running. Below I will touch on some additional matters to cover,

First, Creeperopolis will be remaining as World Assembly Delegate of The League. Foremost, he has excelled in this role and we have no reason to believe he won’t continue to do so post-Consulate. Beyond that, transitions are needlessly draining on resources, time, and effort so we have no desire to make changes here. He will also be taking over a new department as Director of Internal Affairs. His duties in this new role will be further defined between him and the Consulate, but the broad outline we discussed was the following,

  • Oversight of recruitment programs, primarily manual, once that is restored.

  • Ensuring endorsement publications/campaigns are regular and effective.

  • Being the primary point of contact for ensuring the quality and orderly nature of the Regional Message Board.

  • Continuing to assist in archival and recordkeeping-based tasks.

  • Taking over some of the workload in processing citizenship applications.

With Anjan Kloss becoming Consul of the Republic, the role of Premier of Concord has been vacated. The Consulate has made the decision to abolish this position going forward. The role, originally titled Governor-General, was created to ensure Concord was properly developed in a time where it was substantially newer and smaller than The League. We are at a point in Concord’s story where its success is clear, and it stands alongside The League as an equal, integrated part of the community. With this in mind we feel this position has served its purpose, at least for now.

A topic in recent weeks has been potential reform to the Council of the Republic and we will be implementing that soon. While some details need to be sorted out, we plan to transition away from nominations and instead institute an applications system. Directors or individuals otherwise serving as heads of core regional institutions will sit on the Council by default for the duration of their time in that role, as well.

Once again, thank you to Creeperopolis and congratulations to Consul Anjan Kloss.

Long live The League & Concord!
